We Are Not Alone!

Amanda Clewis

In November of last year, I had the privilege of representing Compass Ministries at the annual Mental Health and Missions Conference in Texas. As more than 200 international voices were lifted in worship together, it was with great joy that I realized how Compass Ministries is NOT ALONE in its vision to support missionaries. WE ARE NOT ALONE! We are just one small part of the body of Christ that works together to empower and equip God’s workers worldwide.

At this conference, I had the privilege of interacting with representatives from Barnabas International, Missions Training International, Valeo Global, Alongside, and others, all of whom seek to support missionaries with their mental health needs. There were folks from Dubai, Thailand, Australia, and all over the U.S., each offering their services to missionaries and their families. We all grew together under the conference theme of Humility. We learned from experts in the areas of dealing humbly with cultures and racial issues. We gleaned from researchers and experts the ways that mental health and spirituality intersect. Perhaps one of my favorite aspects of the Conference was rubbing shoulders with those who were more knowledgeable than me and gleaning from their expertise and experiences.

I was very proud to represent Compass Ministries at the Resource Fair, where I was able to share about our services with others. One of the highlights was to realize two of our distinctive: that we offer care to missionaries and their children long after they have returned to their passport country, and also that we have the only existing Residential Mental Health Program for TCKs, which we call the Ruth House. At the resource fair, folks were most interested in learning about the Ruth House and were begging for us to open a men’s house as well. We are praying about how we can meet this need in the future.

Please join us in prayer about this and also how Compass Ministries can continue to be a part of the Global Network of Care for Missionaries.
